the night
Noche Transfigurada / 2016
Revisiting a series of nocturnal photographs of tumbleweed branches, and partially in homage to Schoenburg’s musical composition Transfigured Night, Mazal sought to move the feeling of the photos into large scale paintings. After digitally pouring through literally hundreds of possible compositions and different color options he hit upon the right alchemical combination. Notably, this was also his first deliberate application of a purple or violet color within his painting.
